what is a standard gage of the amount of services per week for a 3rd grader with dyslexia?

I am just learning about the system and my sons IEP. He is 2nd grade and is dyslexic with auditory processing and working memory weakness. He is pulled out for services in reading and math, which he struggles greatly in both. The school offers him 600 minutes per week of instructional services with 30 minutes per week of S/L. He is progressing but slow. How do I know if this is
enough time for him? I also have him tutored an hour of week in SLANT .

That is a lot of sped minutes. That is 10 hours of pull-out (2 hours per day, I’m assuming) with 30 minutes of S/L. So at least 1/3 of his school day is out of class support, in small group or individual help.
Since he is progressing, something is working. Progress is going to vary depending on the child’s issues, how specifically things are being addressed and how well the programs fit the child’s needs. Right now he is getting 690 minutes of help a week. Any more might be too much.
You can do some research on his specific issues and see if there are things you can do to help him over the summer months. Keeping up some type of program over the summer will help him keep what he has gained over the school year.
Give his program some time and see how he does. Sometimes just he maturity that comes with getting older can kick things into a higher gear, so be patient. :) If things continue to be slow next year, then you may want to consider looking at other programs or have a Neuropsych eval done to get more specific information and suggestions that could help him.
There is no “standard”. It is all based on the amount of help the child needs.
