My son is currently in 4th grade at a private school in our town. He is classified with a Non-Verbal Learning Disability. He currently receives services from our School District for OT and our County for Supplemental Education in Writing. For Middle School and High School, he will be attending a private school out of state (only 30 minutes away. Who will be responsible for providing services in that case? What do I need to do to make sure that this transition goes smoothly? Thanks you in advance for the advice. I want to make sure that the services do not fall through the cracks.
IEPS and Private Schools
Contact the Middle School and see what documentation they need. What type of accommodations they are currently able to accommodate and what they are missing for your sons needs. Make sure they can cover any gap.
Good luck!
Re: IEPS and Private Schools
Thanks for the suggestions. I did contact the Child Study Team and they have no idea how services are provided if the child goes to a private school out of state. I will try contacting the out of state Middle School directly.
Re: IEPS and Private Schools
I did not have luck with private school. We have been in a public school for a few years now. Everyone I have talked to has not said good things about private schools, for IEP issues. If it’s a small issue, okay. But, I think major IEP and services are best at public schools. I guess it depends where you live.
Contact your district. They should be able to tell you how that works since he is currently receiving services from them.
