Hi, I’m new here and I really need a lot of help, I have an almost 8 year old girl with a communication disorder and she is also ADD, we recently moved just 0.3 miles away from our old residence but its our of her current school boarder, I thought I was doing the right thing by telling the school and talking with the principal but evidently not, I inquired with her about my girls (5&7) staying until the end of the school year as it would be a hardship on my oldest to try and transition right now, she is on an IEP, and has been since she was 5, she goes to a speech pathologist at the school and has a detailed IEP. The principal however just said “we’ll ill get back to you next week after I look at the number” she called me back this morning to inform Me that they would have to be transferred out no later then Christmas and that she was “doing us a favor ” by extending it that long. This would be detrimental to my special needs daughter, she depends on consistency and routine to be able to function, the principal didnt care not did she ever even look at my daughters file. Aren’t there laws that protect her against this?? Can anyone help me find the right information? We don’t want to change schools in the middle of the year please help!

In my region there are considerations about state funding when students enter or leave the school district and this might be a force driving yours, especially if funding is tight and there are heavy demands on resources. Have you visited the new school? They might be better equipped to provide services than the school you are leaving. You might also go online and contact someone within your state dept. of education about your situation and applicable regulations.

Where you could advise the principal, that given the difficulties that this has created? That you have decided to move back to house you just moved from. Until the end of the school year.
Afterall, the school wont go around to house to check that you are still there? You have probably taken your phone number with you, and having any mail redirected to you?
That could come form the school?
Which could be explained as, the house that you are moving to requires some renovations, so that you wont actually shift there until the end of the school year.
Where the principal just has to follow regulations.
So that with this explanation, he wouldn’t have to make any changes.
Afterall, if you hadn’t told him, then nothing would have changed.
